Team Untamed New England Reports
We were very happy to receive the news that Meal Kit Supply Canada would provide us with Soldier Fuel energy bars and MREs for the Patagonian Expedition Race.

A race such as this one poses some very unique challenges when it comes to food. Because of the sheer length of the race (7-10 days), we knew we would require actual meals, not just energy bars and snacks. We also did not want to have to carry extra gear to boil water in order to make our meals. The MREs provided the perfect solution to the challenges we faced in staying properly fueled during our expedition race, while the Soldier Fuel energy bars were an ideal snack.
The majority of our MREs were consumed at transition areas during the race, where we had access to our food and equipment in order to change from one form of human-powered transportation to another. These were the times when it was vital to consume as many calories as possible in order to re-fuel and to minimize the amount of food that would need to be carried for the next section of the race. Two key factors in being able to adequately “fill up” in transitions are the variety of available foods and their taste. The MREs performed exceptionally well in both of these aspects, providing our team with many delicious options to choose from throughout the race. It was quite comical to watch each other tear into our MREs and rave about how great it was to eat a real meal!
We were equally as happy with the quality and taste of the Soldier Fuel energy bars, which provided us with quick energy out in the middle of the Patagonian wilderness. Weight restrictions for flights limited our ability to bring very much food with us and once arrived in Punta Arenas, we found it difficult to find healthy, filling snacks in the supermarkets. This made our Soldier Fuel bars critical for adequate nutrition on the course.
